What is the best current OS image for the original V1 board?

Post by gtoal »

I'm slowly reacquainting myself with the system again having used it last around 2019.

In more recent years the Pi folks have completely replaced the camera support with the libcamera stack, so before I possibly head down the wrong path (the info on stereopi.com that I've found so far still seems to be pointing to images from 2019) is there support for the original stereopi hardware using a more recent (i.e. still supported) version of the Raspberry Pi OS?

These appear to be the current links to the documentation that I should use:
https://wiki.stereopi.com/index.php?tit ... _tutorials
https://wiki.stereopi.com/index.php?tit ... bian_image

- are those indeed the correct place to start? (and if that's the case would I be just as well off to use the old image from 2019 that's still on my kit from the last time I used it?)

thanks,

Graham

Hi Graham,

We keep the latest RpiOS with MMAL stack updated, so you can follow the guides with the same environment.
The latest updated images are here here.

It's better to use the latest images, since old ones might misbehave (for example, with the latest CM4 firmware).

For all these years, libcamera has not added stereoscopic support. As you mentioned in another topic, there are some tricks to synchronize HQ and GS cameras, but these do not work with regular cameras. But there are some tips and examples in picamera 2 library ( like multicamera_preview.py) in case you'de like to experiment with libcamera aproach.
